PALAZZO GIULIANI

Audio guide · EN 0:00 / 0:00

Palace initially belonging to the ancient Potenza family of Centomani. It is not known whether the Giuliani family took over through combinations of collateral branches of kinship or by having purchased this property. Certainly the palace in the 18th century belonged to the noble Giuliani family, with the family coat of arms prominently displayed on the portal and with a balcony that still today presents the structure of about two centuries ago. It is said that in the Bourbon period, those condemned to death crossed via Pretoria from the prisons to Montereale, where the sentence was carried out, escorted by a large number of gendarmes. The condemned, near Palazzo Giuliani, used to slow down and turn their gaze towards the aforementioned balcony, because, if the noble Giuliani had appeared, this meant that the execution no longer took place.
