The monastery of San Luca was, like its predecessor dedicated to San Lazzaro, of female origin and Benedictine rule. The scarcity of sources on the monastery of San Lazzaro derives from its sudden and bloody disappearance around the mid-1400s, following the plague epidemic that spread in many southern regions. The monastery was subsequently probably aggregated to that of San Luca with all its assets. A building that has been repeatedly expanded, restored and rebuilt over the centuries; in addition to the convent and the church, it included in the lower part south of the building, a garden with a surrounding wall that extended to the current via Garibaldi. The monastery was suppressed with the decree of February 17, 1861, which suppressed monastic orders of both sexes in the Neapolitan and Sicilian Provinces. It currently houses the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri. Around 1925 the ancient monastery was embellished by the construction of porticos. The carabinieri barracks was initially dedicated to Mario Pagano and subsequently to the carabinieri lieutenant from Potenza, Orazio Petruccelli, who died in Cephalonia in 1943.
