SAN GIOVANNI GATE

Audio guide · EN 0:00 / 0:00

It was built in the Norman age (11th-12th century). The San Giovanni Gate owes its name to the hospital run by the Fatebenefratelli of San Giovanni di Dio (from the 13th to the 16th century). The ancient gate features a round arch crossed by a stepped ramp. The gate, now incorporated into modern buildings, was previously flanked by two watchtowers.
