A typical Franciscan church, its style recalls the simplicity of a single-nave layout, characterized by a sloping roof in exposed stone and a central rose window with stained glass. Founded in 1274, the church of San Francesco d'Assisi presents on the outside a beautiful 16th-century portal composed of eight series of panels representing the Christological monogram of San Bernardino of Siena. On the left wall, three single ogival windows with double splay dating back to the 13th century open. Also on the left side, in a niche, the martyrdom of San Sebastiano by G. Todisco da Abriola (1545-1566) is depicted. On the right wall, it is possible to admire the limestone sepulcher of De Grasis from Potenza dated 1534. Also of fine workmanship are the polychrome wooden crucifix of the apse (17th century) and the wall paintings of Santa Chiara and San Francesco, in the two niches along the right wall of the church, frescoes from the first half of the 14th century.
