CONVENT OF SAN FRANCESCO

Audio guide · EN 0:00 / 0:00

On the remains of an ancient proto-Romanesque oratory stands the convent complex dedicated to San Francesco. From the inscription on the church portal, at the base of the archivolt structure, it can be deduced that it was founded in 1265. Between the 16th and 19th centuries it was called 'Grande convento' because it hosted a prestigious theological school. Today it is only possible to see the cloister portico with six arches at the end of which is placed a finely crafted wooden door with a 15th-century portal in limestone.
