The shrine dedicated to San Gerardo, patron saint of the city, is built on the remains of an ancient snow cellar and located on the edge of piazza Matteotti near the Muraglione. The sculpture is attributable to Potenza artist Michele Busciolano. The work, according to the epigraph located to the right of the saint's statue, was completed in 1865 and depicts a neo-Renaissance bust on a semi-octagonal plan with pillars ending in Corinthian-style capitals. The aedicule reproduces the facade of a domed building, with a semicircular plan, closed at the back. On the stepped base rest five columns with fluted shafts, decorated with leaf capitals. The columns support architraves decorated with cherubs and roses. The inscription on the left recalls two important moments for the city: the invasion of brigands in 1809 and the insurrection of August 18, 1860.
