The San Gerardo Gate was built in the Norman age (11th-12th century) along the northern section of the walls; it takes its name from the nearby cathedral of the same name. The gate opens between the Bishop's Palace and Palazzo Scafarelli, and constituted direct access inside the walls to the possessions of the episcopal curia. The passage is characterized by a barrel vault with a lowered arch and is surmounted by a small window, perhaps the last remnant of an ancient guardhouse, while outside a buttress block structure is evident.
