STATUE OF A BOY WITH CLASPED HANDS

Audio guide · EN 0:00 / 0:00

At the corner between Piazza Matteotti and Via Cesare Battisti stands a column surmounted by the statue of a boy with his hands clasped in prayer, on whose head a capital is placed. The dating of the sculpture is uncertain and ranges between the 17th and 19th centuries; its original function is equally unclear. Hypothetically, it could be connected to the chapel dedicated to the Madonna del Carmine, deconsecrated in 1850, which according to archival sources stood right in this corner of the square.
